Self denial? Me? Not likely!

December 9, 2012

you are making progress. dont give up nowI’m happy to report that I didn’t entirely fall of my exercise waggon and have only taken a mere detour over the last couple of days.  Tonight, as promised, I broke my fast and completed week 4 run 2 of couch25k.

In all honesty I probably shouldn’t have done it.  The aches in my legs haven’t gone away, but they do now seem to have gathered in one place, somewhere round one knee.  At least when I go to the doctors next week I can now point to the bit that hurts.

The run itself was surprisingly good.  I thought after 6 days off I would really struggle, when in reality I actually went a little faster and a little further than last time.  On the second 5 min run I didn’t have the problem that my legs were so tired I could barely put one foot infront of the other. I actually had a little spring in my step (perception and reality may be very different here) by the time I had finished.  Assuming that the leg doesn’t wildly object over the next day or so I think I can push a little harder on Tuesday for run 3.  I want to be able to add another 50-100m to the distance I run next time, which doesn’t seem like an unreasonable target.

Feeling a lot less guilty I am now braced for the week ahead and for the monumental mocking I am going to get from work colleagues tomorrow about the state I got into at the Xmas bash on Thursday
