Yoda and the art of running

December 18, 2012

Tonight I want to jump around shouting ‘YIPEEE’ and ‘I DID IT’ at the top of my lungs.  I’m totally hyper and grinning like an utter loony, all because I completed week 5 run 3.  Yes, I have run non-stop for a total of 20 minutes!!!!!!
I left the house smiling, but nervous, and determined to be able to tell people that I was able to complete the run.  Having listened to the teachings of Master Yoda there was no way (barring major injury) that I was going to give up.
I used an old Jedi mind trick to convince myself that all I was really doing was a series of 5 minute runs, rather than one big nasty 20 min run.  Round about the 15 minute mark when the Stormtroopers of tiredness came knocking I used another mind trick ‘these are not the legs you are looking for’.
The result was that I did it, rather than tried to do it.  I’m even pretty impressed with the pace (12.3min/mile) considering its the furthest I’ve ever run non-stop.  I may, however, have ruined my supercool Jedi image by ‘whoop’-ing noisily in the street surprising a few dog walkers.
This Jedi is ready for week 6 and will be able to run for 25 min by the end of it 🙂

must be careful not to turn to the darkside though! Although, not quite sure what that would mean with respect to running – barefoot maybe? 🙂
