Zombie apolocalypse? No, just Christmas Day

December 25, 2012

While waiting for Christmas dinner to cook I was seized with a mad idea. Lets go for a run, I thought! Today was meant to be my week 6 run 2 of couch25k anyway, but doing something on Christmas day to combat all the food I’d be eating seemed like a good (if slightly crazy) idea.

So while most people were already tucking into their turkey and trimmings I was pulling on my trainers and getting ready to go out and hit the road.

It was beautifully crisp out and I was lucky with the timing as I must have found the only 30 min of sunshine in the southwest to run in. Despite this the run was hard going as it seemed I was constantly running into a headwind and after 1o mins I was more than ready to slow to a walk. By the time the second set of 10 min came round I could happily have headed home as my legs were feeling like rubber. Last week I did this run non-stop and this week I felt like I was trying to breathe out of my bottom.  Shows what happens after a few days of good eating.

Running isolation. Chipping Sodbury is nothing like this, but you get the idea.

It’s not the fact that it was difficult that will make this run memorable, it’s the fact that in the entire time I was out I saw only 5 people and a similar number of cars!  For a minute I thought it was my own private version of 28 Days later and I half expected Zombies to come shuffling after me. Actually I could have done with that to make me run a bit faster!

Here’s hoping I can find similar inspiration and motivation to do my 25 min run later this week.  Its going to be hard to detach myself from Lego Lord of the Rings but I know I can do it 🙂
