Janathon Day 9 – Couch 25k week 8 run 2

January 9, 2013

I may be late starting, but thinking about it I was already keeping to the spirit of Janathon.  Looking at my Runkeeper records I’ve only had one day of no ‘official’ exercise in January :-).

The blog title cunningly gives the game away, tonight’s choice of exercise was run 2, week 8 of couch25k.  I stuck to the route I extended for Mondays run and tried to see if I could extend it further and improve the pace.

Its been a great night to be out as the weather has turned colder and there’s a frost just starting.  I find it easier running in the cold as it helps to stop me overheating while exercising and there’s something about cold crisp air that gives you a real zing.  The other treat was how many people seem to have taken up running as a New Years Resolution, it seemed like every couple of mins I was saying hi to another runner.  I must confess it felt good to see some people who are obviously in the early stages of a walk/run programme and to be able to keep running past them as they stopped to walk.  Slightly less good was trying to keep up with people who obviously run at a much faster pace and trying to act like I’m not really struggling stay with them #honest.  Think I’ll stick to running at my pace until I can do the distance and then try kicking it up a gear.

Having slightly messed up my calculations with the last run I’ve worked out that between Monday and today I’ve gone from a 11.7min to an 11.3 min/mile pace.  A small but significant improvement and one I’m happy with.

All in all a good start to Janathon
