Janathon Day 12 – less Waterrower, more Titanic

January 12, 2013

My beautiful Waterrower, part exercise equipment, part Ikea furniture

Absolutely gutted.  Today I discovered my Waterrower is broken :-(.

Dressed in sports kit with David Attenborough’s Africa poised to play on i-player I sat down and prepared myself to row.  I always start slowly to let the knees warm up and with the first stroke I noticed a funny whirring noise and that there was no distance or stroke rate registering on the monitor.

My first thought was, please let it not be something rubbing in the water thingy (you know the big bucket thingy that all the water sits in).  That would have been challenging and difficult to rectify.  After very little investigation I breathed a (stupidly optimistic) sigh of relief as I  found a bit in the pulling mechanism that was not only loose but fractured.  I remember that whatever it was had been loose on delivery and I had stuck it back in position thinking it wasn’t crucial and no more about it as the rower worked fine.  Well, it seems that was an incorrect assumption and all was not well.

So, my attempt at Janathon was thwarted as I spent valuable time trying to fix the problem, failing and then giving up to drive to the BF’s for the rest of the weekend.  I’m now going to write to the nice people at Waterrower asking for help so my beautiful baby can row again 😦

In the meantime I shall have to make do with Lego Orc killing and save myself for tomorrows run
