Janathon Day 17 – On the road again

January 17, 2013

This is how I should have gone running when its this cold. Maybe I’ll remember next time.

Today the UK is poised for the threat of snow, which as anyone who lives here will tell you we are totally ill equipped to deal with.  The exodus from work started around 4, with people muttering about taking laptops home to be able to work on Friday if they cant get into the office. I’m sure the weather was playing along with the mood of my co-workers as it was snowing gently all the way home.

It was into this cold snowy environment that I decided to throw myself after getting home, in a vain attempt to do some exercise before the heavens open overnight.  Despite wrapping up warmer than normal the cold really hit me hard.  My poor lungs were still reeling with the cold I’ve been left with and pretty soon I was feeling very tight in the chest.  The legs were also complaining after my easy walk yesterday, despite having done loads of stretching first.

What I’ve tried to vivdly prepare you for is the fact that I didn’t really do much of a run.  It was better than no run, but 1.48 miles in 18 mins isn’t much to write home about in the scheme of things.  I have missed being outside while I’ve been ill so this was a really good start back to ‘normal’ operating standards.  That said I’m glad I came home when I did as both legs and lungs were starting to trouble me.  Next run I’ll try to get myself back to doing the 30 mins again 🙂

So, I’m back oncourse with Janathon.  Tomorrow I’m going for a really unusual form of exercise, I’m going to Timewarp (snow permitting)!  I’m hoping it will be sufficiently energetic to count towards my total.

So, join in everyone, you know the words.  Its just a jump to the left………..and then a step to the riiiiiiiiight.

totals for Janathon:

  • running – 16.67 miles
  • rowing – 2.36 miles
  • cycling – 4.3 miles
  • exercise class – 90 mins
  • walking – 1 mile
