Trend setter, moi?

March 2, 2013

people following in my footsteps should not necessarily expect me to know where I’m going……

I have never, EVER, been cool or trendy.  I’ve always kind of taken the path less travelled, or at least furrowed by the doc Martens of geeks.

Well it seems that I’ve become an instigator.  Somehow another 3 work colleagues have decided to follow in my trainer prints and try couch25k.  There seem to be a variety of reasons from weight-loss to stress management and improving fitness.  I’ve talked to folks about my ‘journey’ (pass the sick bag) and it’s obviously made more of an impression that I gave it credit for.  I’m thinking that after all this time maybe I have inadvertently become #gasp trendy simply by taking up exercise. ………?  Either that or (more likely) I’ve just badgered these poor individuals until they give in.  Either way its good for them :-).  I’ve even offered to be a running buddy for one lady starting out to help maintain her motivation through the course.  It’ll be interesting to see how that one goes.

Anyway, back to b210k, well almost.  I wanted to get back into the programme today but thought that as my last run was only 18 mins it wasn’t such a hot idea to bounce back up to doing 45.  So here I am at the BF’s having just done a 30 min run.  I think I could have gone for longer, but I’ll save that for the next run so that I’m back to doing week 2 properly.

All told I’m still pretty happy as I can now see how much I’ve improved.  I’m now doing 4k in 30 mins instead of 3.5k and my 3k time is now just over 22 min instead of 25.  I can see that a 30 min 5k is possible some time in the future 🙂

Rounded off todays session with my Mad Abs March, did my 12s plank, 12 crunches and 12 press-ups. Thank god tomorrow is another ’12’ day as I ache from this and the idea of doing more is not currently appealing.

Now for an afternoon of baking with the BF.  His idea I hasten to add.  He wants to make cakes, which I have never been known to object to :-).  After that, who knows, Lego Batman may be required.
