I feel a need for speed

March 16, 2013

Sandra Bullock – “Speed” training

If I had to choose who would play me in the movie of my life, I’d have to say Sandra Bullock.  A girl next door type with a killer sense of humour who just seems like a lovely person (in her films anyway).  That’s her by the way, not necessarily me 🙂

I was reminded of her today (tenuous link ahead warning) when I decided to do the C25k – Speed podcast (told you it was tenuous). I thought I’d do a test and see if I’d improved on my first attempt last month.  This is the alternating 60s @ 150 and 165 bpm for those who haven’t had the delight yet.

Wish I could say that I was able to turn the wick up and blast my previous effort.  However, it was exactly the same :-(.  In my defence (brace for racing driver type excuses) it was very windy out and half way round it started to hail!

Despite the now infamous technique of breathing out my bottom what I’m taking away from this is the need to try harder. Next time I will kick the butt of these intervals and improve my pace, splits under 12 min/mile are what I’m after.  I’ve got to really, I can’t disappoint Sandra can I?

HA!! Sandra’s my girl!! Oh man…and Speed? Great movie. You, my dear, are a freak and I love it!! Sorry about your speed…or lack of…but great job trying!!
Oh…and the way you talk about your bottom, and breath that escapes there from…is waaaay nicer than what I would say. Well played.

Ok so I’m guessing you explained the C25K – Speed in an earlier post that I’m too lazy to look for. Could you please explain it to me? How do you measure? Are you measuring heartrate? So confused…but don’t worry, doesn’t take much.

LOL @ Breathing out your bottom! I do love that phrase. Thank you for brightening my Sunday with a Keanu Reeves pic though.

bugger the super speed – you’re doing great! And you will get quicker when the weather is a bit warmer (not too warm mind), not hailing, or in fact, doing anything weather-wise that is better placed in the midst of winter (hear that weather gods?! It’s March! Snow isn’t appropriate! *shakes fist*).

Had snow today!!!!! I’m wondering if some sort of ritual sacrifice is needed to get spring springing :-/
Was practicing diving today for hol next week and the water was 6C. After 30 mins underwater I could barely feel my fingers. All I was thinking was that it would have been warmer if I was out running

yep, it was definitely warmer out running this evening. Cold water… blurgh! ( say the girl who’s just got out of a scalding hot bath). You’re a braver woman than I am!!

I used this podcast for the first time on Friday. It was so tough, but I think it will really help! Thanks, again, for the recommendation!

it was that podcast that first induced the ‘bottom breathing’ technique, but it is good for pushing you that little bit further.
Although I’ve found hills worse as doing that nearly made me sick :-/
Good luck with your post c25k plans 🙂
