Juneathon Day 1 – Diving at Fort Bovisand

June 1, 2013

The Scylla. I dived it, but with poor visibility all I can tell you is I saw the bow as it is the pointy bit at the front!

Juneathon got off to a great start today with two fantastic dives.

The boys at Discovery Divers laid on good weather and calm seas. Shame that under the water was not as idyllic as above, but as any UK diver will tell you – that’s the chance you take. The algae bloom is well underway, so the water was more like a green soup

Todays dives were on HMS Scylla  and a pinnacle near the Mewstone. On a clear day these sites are spectacular, less so with 2-3m visibility. Although you do learn to appreciate surprises when you have to feel your way around.

Managed to swim a little way into the Scylla, but it was too murky to contemplate a long swim through. Mewstone had loads of fish, starfish and a couple of crabs.

All in all spent just under 90 mins underwater, at a balmy 11c. Between that and lugging my kit around I think I deserve the BBQ we have planned for dinner.

Tomorrow is more of same, hopefully out at hand deeps and Eddystone Lighthouse. Look forward to seeing you all for day 2
